Sievert von Pogwisch (* 1587 ; † August 27, 1626 in the Battle of Lutter ) was a German nobleman, diplomat, squire and provost of Uetersen .

Life

He came from the influential knight family Pogwisch and was lord of the estates Haselau , Hagen and Kaden , which he took over through the marriage of the widow of Marquard von Ahlefeldt , who fell at the battle of Hemmingstedt . He studied in Rostock and Heidelberg and was elected provost of the Uetersen monastery in 1617 . Sievert von Pogwisch was a diplomat and royal councilor in the service of the Danish crown. Among other things, Christian IV sent him at the beginning of the Thirty Years' War as head of a delegation to Ferdinand II to help his brother-in-law Friedrich von Böhmen regain his throne, but this mission was unsuccessful. In 1625 he became war commissioner and bailiff in Rendsburg . In the later battle of Lutter am Barenberge Sievert von Pogwisch was seriously wounded and died on August 27, 1626 of his injuries.

He was considered a wealthy man who was close friends with the Electress of Saxony, the Duke of Braunschweig, the Count of Solms and the Archbishop of Bremen. After the death of his wife in 1627, an inventory of their household was made in Haselau in 1630. Only then did the entire wealth and prosperity of the deceased couple become known. The list of all valuables filled a book with more than 200 pages.

Others

A farm (Idenburg) in the Haseldorfer Marsch was named after his daughter Ida (1619–1679), which today belongs to the municipality of Hetlingen. It still reminds of the extinct noble family.
