Sigrid Schade (* 1954 in Darmstadt ) is a German art historian and university professor .

Career

From 1973 to 1977 Schade studied art history , German and empirical cultural studies at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen and at the Warburg Institute in London . She received her doctorate in 1982 with a thesis on " depictions of witches in the early modern times " with KH Hoffmann and Hermann Bausinger .

After a traineeship at the Kassel State Collections, teaching assignments at the Universities of Marburg , Kassel , Zurich and Bern and a research position at the Technical University of Berlin from 1986 to 1991, she was a research assistant at the Institute for Cultural Studies in Essen from 1991 to 1993 .

Visiting and substitute professorships at the University of Tübingen and the Humboldt University of Berlin followed in 1994 with a habilitation (with K. Herding, Marcia Pointon and Silke Wenk ) on the subject: “Body images and their readings. Studies on the use of body language in art and photography from the 16th to the 20th century ”at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg for the field of art studies.

Schade taught from 1994 to 2005 as a professor for art studies and aesthetic theory in the cultural studies department at the University of Bremen .

In 2002 she was appointed director of the newly founded Institute for Cultural Studies at the Zurich University of the Arts , whose profile she designed.

Sigrid Schade's research activities essentially focus on body concepts in the fine arts, medical illustration , photography, film, theatrical productions, mass media , video and digital imaging. 16.-21.
