Sikièye

Sikièye (also: Sikiay , Sikié , Sikiey ) is a village in the rural municipality of Namaro in Niger .

The village, run by a traditional chief ( chef traditionnel ), is located around 16 kilometers southeast of Namaro, the capital of the rural community of the same name, which belongs to the Kollo department in the Tillabéri region. Sikièye is located on the right bank of the Niger River . The larger villages in the area include Karma in the northwest and Yonkoto in the southeast.

Sikièye was one of those places in what is now Niger, where after the fall of the Songhai Oak's 1591 in Songhai -Flüchtlinge under a descendant of the dynasty Askia settled. In the middle of the 17th century, Sikièye became part of the domain of Gindé Marieizé, the ruler of Namaro.

At the 2012 census, Sikièye had 988 inhabitants living in 112 households. At the 2001 census, the population was 957 in 119 households, and at the 1988 census, the population was 969 in 126 households.

National road 4 runs a little outside the local area . In 2013, a group of investors from Malaysia planned to build a 766 hectare complex for industrial animal husbandry near Sikièye and the neighboring village of Yonkoto .
