Yonkoto

Yonkoto is a village in the Namaro rural community in Niger .

The village, led by a traditional chief ( chef traditionnel ), is located around 17 kilometers southeast of Namaro, the capital of the rural community of the same name, which belongs to the department of Kollo in the Tillabéri region. Yonkoto is located on the right bank of the Niger River . The larger villages in the area include Bangou Koirey in the southeast and Sikièye in the northwest.

Yonkoto was one of those places in what is now Niger, where after the fall of the Songhai Oak's 1591 in Songhai -Flüchtlinge under a descendant of the dynasty Askia settled. In the middle of the 17th century, Yonkoto became part of the domain of Gindé Marieizé, the ruler of Namaro.

At the 2012 census, Yonkoto had 1,292 residents who lived in 179 households. At the 2001 census, the population was 1,043 in 129 households and at the 1988 census, the population was 1,080 in 144 households.

National road 4 runs a little outside the local area . In 2013, a group of investors from Malaysia planned to build a 766 hectare complex for industrial animal husbandry near Yonkoto and the neighboring village of Sikièye .
