history

The villages Bangou Koirey , Sikièye and Yonkoto in the municipality of Namaro were among those places in what is now Niger, where after the fall of the Songhai Oak's 1591 Songhai -Flüchtlinge under a descendant of the former ruling dynasty Askia settled. The village was Namaro mid-17th century by Kurtey founded and Songhai, of from Téra coming Tuareg were expelled from Gothèye. Their leader was Dossa Kayné. His son Gindé Marieizé determined the final position of Namaro and brought the villages Bangou Koirey, Guillawa, Sikièye and Yonkoto under his rule.

The French colonial administration established a canton in Namaro at the beginning of the 20th century and recognized the local Songhai ruler Sidi as head of the canton. The rural community of Namaro emerged from the canton of Namaro in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform. In the flood disaster in West and Central Africa in 2010 , 19,284 residents of Namaro were classified as disaster victims, more than in any other municipality in Niger.

population

At the 2001 census, Namaro had 33,527 residents. For 2010, 46,809 inhabitants were calculated.

Culture and sights

In the center of the main town, in the middle of a square, there is a mosque from 1975. The entire complex encloses an area of 40 square meters and is therefore very small. The Betraumgebäude has a square base, the mihrab held -Vorbau is cuboid and emphasizes unadorned. The outer walls are not structured. Except from the east there is an entrance on each side.

In Namaro there is a school for the education of Djesseré . These are narrators from the Songhai Zarma Society who pass on historical traditions in long lectures.

Economy and Infrastructure

Wet rice cultivation is practiced along the river . The western municipal area is located in a zone in which rain-fed agriculture is carried out. The large Saturday market in the main town is livened up by traders from Niamey. Mainly vegetables such as potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and onions as well as pottery made from boubon are sold .

At M'Banga, formerly a small hamlet populated by arable farmers in the municipality of Namaro, gold has been won since the 1980s . In the 2010s the gold mining facilities increasingly attracted immigrants from home and abroad and M'Banga grew into a 5000-inhabitant settlement in which over 15 languages are used. The settlement is hardly subject to state control and its infrastructure is largely privately organized. There is an uncontrolled international market. M'Banga is a prostitution center and notorious for its poor security situation.

In the village of Larba Touloumbou there is a Center de Santé Intégré (CSI), a health center that was officially responsible for caring for over 11,000 people in 2016. From 2011 to 2014 over 200 cholera sufferers, most of whom lived in M'Banga, were treated at the CSI in Larba Touloumbou. National road 4 runs through Namaro and connects the town with the state border with Burkina Faso near Téra .
