Kouré is located in the greater Sudan landscape at the transition to the Sahel zone and is south of the Nigerien capital Niamey on the Niger River . The neighboring communities of Kourés are Hamdallaye in the north, Dantchandou in the northeast, Harikanassou in the east, N'Gonga in the southeast, Fakara in the south, Kirtachi and Say in the southwest, Kollo in the west and N'Dounga in the northwest. The municipality is divided into 26 administrative villages and 24 hamlets. The main town of the rural municipality is the administrative village of Kouré.

Kouré has the last wild population of West African giraffes , which was on the verge of extinction in the mid-1990s. The tiger bush provides sufficient food for the giraffes in the rocky highlands. In the dry season, due to a lack of water, they move to neighboring areas, such as Harikanassou.

history

The traditional mansion ( French : chefferie ) of the Zarma in Kouré was created in the middle of the 17th century. The rural community of Kouré emerged from the canton of Kouré in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform. In 2008, 27 houses in the administrative village of Boula Koaratégui were destroyed in floods and over 300 villagers were damaged. In 2009 floods caused material damage in three other villages in the municipality, which again directly affected around 300 residents.

population

99% of the population belong to the Zarma ethnic group. There are also minorities of the Fulbe and Tuareg . At the 2001 census, Kouré had 29,481 inhabitants. For 2010, 41,181 inhabitants were calculated.
