Youri is a rural municipality in the department of Kollo in Niger .

geography

Youri is located on the Niger River in the Sahel region . The neighboring communities are Liboré and N'Dounga in the north, Kollo in the east, Say in the south and Bitinkodji in the west. The municipality is divided into 23 administrative villages, one traditional village and eleven hamlets. The main town of the rural municipality is the administrative village of Youri Kourtéré.

history

Youri was separated from the canton Say in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform - like the neighboring rural community Bitinkodji - and established as an independent rural community. Since then, Youri no longer belongs to the Say Department , but to the Kollo Department.

population

At the 2001 census, Youri had 29,577 inhabitants. For 2010, 41,313 inhabitants were calculated.

Economy and Infrastructure

The community is located in a zone where rain-fed agriculture is practiced. National road 27 runs through Youri and connects the Nigerien capital Niamey with the state border with Burkina Faso near Tamou . The Thursday market in Damari, a village belonging to Youri, is relatively small despite its location directly on the national road. Another small weekly market in the municipality, which takes place on Mondays, is in the village of Diakindi. Onions grown on the river and decorated calabashes are sold there.
