history

The Zarma settlement N'Dounga was founded at the end of the 16th century. Its founder was a son of the warrior Hawa Izé Mali, who resisted the conquerors from Morocco for the Songhairian Empire and traced his descent to the legendary hero Mali Béro . The settlement became the seat of the Zarma subgroup Kogori. The ruler of N'Dounga assumed the title of Zarmakoy . A son of a Zarmakoy named Sébangou Mali founded the settlement Gamkalley Sébanguey , which is now a district of the capital Niamey . The Zarma of N'Dounga regularly went on raids in the region in the 19th century, for example to Bonkoukou , Karma and Sakoïra . They also tried, albeit unsuccessfully, to attack Dosso .

The rural community of N'Dounga emerged from the canton of N'Dounga in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform.
