Coulaines is a French commune with 7,423 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) three kilometers north of Le Mans . It belongs to the Sarthe department in the region of Pays de la Loire and is located 200 kilometers southwest of Paris .

In 843 the Treaty of Coulaines between King Charles the Bald and the nobility and clergy of the West Franconian Empire was signed here.

Since 1972 Coulaines has been related to Weyhe in Lower Saxony . Coulaines has another parish partnership with Kouré in Niger .
