Le Mans Métropole is a French association of municipalities with the legal form of a Communauté urbaine in the Sarthe department in the Pays de la Loire region . It was founded on November 19, 1971 and comprises 19 parishes. The administrative headquarters are in the city of Le Mans .

Contrary to what the name might suggest, it is not a metropolis in the sense of French local law. This legal form for municipal associations only came into being in 2010, long after the Le Mans city association was founded.

Historical development

With effect from January 1, 2017, the five municipalities of the dissolved Communauté de communes du Bocage Cénomans joined the local association of municipalities.
