Saint-Jean-d'Assé is a French commune with 1,759 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Sarthe in the region Pays de la Loire . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Le Mans and the Canton of Bonnétable (until 2015: Canton Ballon ). The inhabitants are called Asséens .

Saint-Jean-d'Assé is about 16 kilometers north-north-west of Le Mans . Saint-Jean-d'Assé is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Marceau in the north, Teillé in the northeast, Montbizot in the east, Sainte-Jamme-sur-Sarthe in the east and southeast, La Bazoge in the south, and Sainte-Sabine-sur-Longève to the west and south-west, Mézières-sur-Lavardin to the west and Le Tronchet to the north-west. The A28 autoroute and the former national route 138 (today's D338) run through the municipality .
