Simon Benedikt Faistenberger (baptized October 27, 1695 in Kitzbühel ; † April 22, 1759 in Kitzbühel) was an Austrian painter .

Life

Simon Benedikt Faistenberger is the son of the Kitzbühel painter Ignaz Faistenberger (1662–1728). After training with his father, he went to Munich to do an apprenticeship with Johann Anton Gumpp , where his uncle Andreas also worked as a sculptor. Simon Benedikt Faistenberger was Rottmayr's assistant in the painting of Melk Abbey and during this time also got to know works by Rubens .

From 1727 he moved back to Kitzbühel, where he married the court clerk's daughter, Maria Elisabeth Falger, in 1730 and became a citizen in 1733. He became a member of the Inner Council and was mayor of Kitzbühel from 1752 to 1757

As one of the most important painters of the Tyrolean Unterland in his time, he mainly created church frescoes in Kitzbühel and the surrounding area, which are characterized by moving compositions and foreshortened perspective. There are also several panel paintings from his hand, where his strength lies in portraits.
