Simon Kostner (born November 30, 1990 in Bolzano ) is an Italian ice hockey player who has been under contract with Ritten Sport since 2014 and has played with the club in the Alps Hockey League since 2016 . His father Erwin was also an Italian national ice hockey player. His sister Carolina became world figure skating champion in 2012 .

Career

Simon Kostner began his career as an ice hockey player in the youth department of HC Gherdëina . In 2006 he moved to the Adler Mannheim , for whose juniors he was active for two years in the German Junior League, which he won with the team in 2008. He then moved to Finland where he worked for JYP Jyväskylä and their neighbors and cooperation partners JYP-Akatemia (formerly Diskos Jyväskylä ). He won the Finnish A youth championship with JYP Jyväskylä in 2011 and made four appearances in the Liiga in the 2011/12 season , thus helping to win the Finnish championship . For the 2013/14 season the Center returned to Italy where he played for HC Fassa in the Serie A . Since 2014 he has been playing for league competitor Ritten Sport , with whom he has been active in the multinational Alps Hockey League since 2016 . With the club, he won the Italian cup competition in 2015 and the national championship title in 2016, 2017 and 2018 . In addition, he won the Alps Hockey League and the Supercoppa Italiana in 2017 .

International

For Italy Kostner took part in the junior division of the U18 World Championships in Division I in 2007 and 2008 , when the tournament's top scorer, and in the U20 World Championships in Division II in 2008 and Division I in 2009 and 2010 . He also played with the Italian student selection at the 2011 Winter Universiade in Erzurum .

He made his debut in the men's national team in the 2010/11 season, but was used for the first time in February 2016 in the first round of qualification for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , which was held in Cortina d'Ampezzo , at an international tournament. Later that year he also played in Division I of the 2016 World Cup , where the Italians were promoted to the top division, and the second round of Olympic qualification. He then played at the 2017 World Cup in the top division and in 2018 in division I.
