Sister is a Swedish sleaze rock band from Stockholm and Jönköping, founded in 2006 .

history

Sister were founded in early 2006 by the drummer Cari and the then guitarist Dani. Singer Jamie, who was still active in another band at the time, left this band and joined the duo. After several appearances, another well-known group broke up and their bassist Rikki joined Sister. The band name itself is not given any deeper meaning. Drummer and founding member Cari joked: “It has no deeper meaning. I think it's a great name. I had the name in my head for a while and tried to mix it up with other names. But somehow it turned out that it just became Sister. Four guys with make-up release an album called "Hated" and call themselves Sister. It can't get any better! People will freak out. "

In the beginning, Sister played glam metal and sleaze rock inspired by the eighties , comparable to the bands Crashdïet or Crazy Lixx, also from Sweden . Several demos were recorded in this style of music and sold through self-distribution, especially at their own concerts. But then there was a change in style in terms of music and performance, away from Glam Metal. The group separated from their previous guitarist Dani and Lestat joined the formation. The sound of the music was from then on heavier and more metal-heavy, but still contained elements of punk. The lyrics became more aggressive, darker and from then on offered partly ironic horror themes. As a result, Sister was sometimes compared with the horror punk and metal bands Murderdolls and Wednesday 13 from now on . The group cannot understand the comparison, as they see themselves more as a sleaze band and have "not much to do with horror punk". In an interview with singer Jamie, he uses the genre name "Sleaze Punk", but also refers to the name "Black Sleaze", which a female fan brought him to.

In 2008 the band toured Europe with Private Line . In 2009 the band recorded the EP Deadboys Making Noise and shot a music video for the song Too Bad for You . A record deal with this label was signed in 2010 through Primordial's Alan Averill , who also worked as A&R assistant at Metal Blade Records . On June 3, 2011, the debut album Hated was released . The debut album placed 7th in the editorial charts of the July issue of Rock Hard and was included in the 10xDynamit. The band then played at the Sweden Rock Festival and Bang Your Head . At the end of the year, Sister went on tour with Fozzy . At the end of 2012, Lestat said goodbye for personal reasons. Guitarist Tim joined the formation for him. 2013 tours followed with Skid Row in Great Britain and Wednesday 13 in continental Europe.

In 2014 the second album Disguised Vultures was released again via Metal Blade Records. The music website metal.de praises the album as “sleaze-laden punk with guitars that kick your ass so hard that they have to be surgically removed”, but overall it looks a bit weaker than its predecessor. The music site Neckbreaker thinks of the band that it would be “too easy” to just see them as a sleaze band. Sister would “hide a lot more than that”. Vocalist Jamie Anderson “often reminds me of various black metal combos, but the structure of the songs is very often reminiscent of punk rock”. Sisters have "their own style and combine the different genres, which results in an interesting mix".

After nine years with Sister, bassist Rikki Riot announced his departure on January 14, 2016. The reason for this is that he wants a change. Four days later, Sister announced that Crashdïet's Martin Sweet would succeed him.
