Crazy Lixx is a Swedish sleaze rock band that was formed in Malmö in 2002 . The band's name refers to an electronic toy guitar that lead singer and founder Danny Rexon owned as a child.

Band history

Singer Danny Rexon, previously active as bassist and guitarist in metal bands like Vanity Dies Hard and Vanity , founded Crazy Lixx together with Vic Zino and Joél Cirera in 2002 due to the desire for more eighties hard rock-oriented music, inspired by bands like Def Leppard , Mötley Crüe , Whitesnake or Bon Jovi . The band Crucible then emerged as a planned side project, but was disbanded after a short time. The band name refers to TYCO's Hot Lixx electronic toy guitar that Rexon received as a child as a Christmas present and played the metal riffs. When the band was founded, however, he did not correctly remember the name of the toy, so that this led to "Crazy Lixx".

Together with music groups like Crashdïet , Crazy Lixx were among the first bands of the so-called "New Wave of Swedish Sleaze". In 2003 a demo was recorded, with Danny Rexon as a singer for the first time, who previously played guitar as no other singer was found. The demo contained the three tracks Bad in a Good Way , Death Row and Love on the Run . A first small success was that a song from this demo was placed on the American compilation Hollywood Hairspray Vol. 3 . In 2005 the first EP Do or Die followed, which was still self-distributed . After a 2006 tour supporting ex- Guns-N'-Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke , Crazy Lixx was signed to SwedMetal Records in 2007 and the EP Heroes Are Forever was released.

In July 2007 Crazy Lixx began recording their debut album Loud Minority . It was recorded in the Polar Studios in Stockholm and produced by Chris Lanley, who has also worked for Candlemass , Europe , and Crashdiet . After a short tour of Great Britain and an appearance at the Sweden Rock Festival , Loud Minority was released in November 2007. Accompanied by benevolent press coverage, it reached number two on the Swedish hard rock charts. At the beginning of 2008 Crazy Lixx went on tour with Hardcore Superstar .

At the end of the tour with Hardcore Superstar, Vic Zino decided to leave Crazy Lixx and join Hardcore Superstar. Andy Dawson became the new guitarist. After Crazy Lixx broke up with Swedmetal Records, they began touring again in 2009, also headlining the Rest in Sleaze Festival. In mid-2009 they began to record their new album New Religion , which was released on Frontier Records in spring 2010. This album was also received positively by critics and fans. The success of the album opened many doors for the group, according to their own statement.

In 2011, drummer Joél Cirera announced his short-term exit for family reasons. Before the release of the third album Riot Avenue , bassist Loke Rivano left the band due to musical differences. He performed for the last time on March 9, 2012 at the Rock the Night Festival in Lichtenfels with Crazy Lixx. In contrast to the melodic previous album, Riot Avenue is deliberately kept “raw” and “snotty” in order to meet the desire for a harder sound.

In 2014 the self-titled album Crazy Lixx was released . The music website Stormbringer judges that the sound could "come straight from the 80s". The riffs are "groovy" and "party-like". Crazy Lixx would have stayed true to their style, but would have "refined and refined" it. After 2013, another appearance at the Bang Your Head Festival followed in 2015 . The resignation of the guitarists Zata and Liam in the same year threatened the existence of the band at times, according to Rexon. With Sound Of The Live Minority , Crazy Lixx's first live album was released in 2016, already with the two new members Jens Lundgren and Chrisse Olsson.

In 2017, Ruff Justice, the group's fifth studio album, was released. The Powermetal.de site praises it as the “temporary crowning achievement of a remarkable development” and “the highlight in the band catalog”. She also praises the performance, strong melodies in “semi-balladic moments and various lively up-tempo rockers”, as well as “a number of wonderful hooklines”. Ruff Justice is "a disc by which the band will have to be measured in the future as well as the competition". The computer game Friday the 13th - The Game , released in 2017, contained three songs from this album, the title song being Killer . After 2015, Crazy Lixx appeared again as headliners at the Sleaze Fest in Bochum in 2018 .
