history

Foundation time and work in Jyväskylä

The band was founded in 1995 by Sammy Aaltonen ( vocals ) and Jari Huttunen ( guitar ), 1996 came Janne Kulju ( bass ) and drummer Eliaz added. With this line-up, the band won a competition in 1998 and took the EP Smooth Motions from the prize money . In the following year the line-up of the band was completed by Ilari "Illy / Illu" Heinäaho (guitar) and Juha "Spit" Kinnunen (bass) after Janne Kulju left the band. This was followed by the recording of a five-song demo, which received positive feedback in the media, especially in online magazines, both inside and outside Finland. 2001 turned out to be a difficult year for the band. First guitarist Jari left Private Line for Timo Rautiainen & Trio Niskalaukaus , then front man Sammy moved from Jyväskylä to Helsinki.

New formation in Helsinki

After singer Sammy moved, all the other members of the band gradually came to Helsinki and in 2002 Private Line began to establish themselves in their new hometown. Meanwhile, a substitute had also been found for Jari , Juhana "Jack Smack" Jakonen , whom Sammy had met in a club, who had already become known in the Helsinki music scene with his ex-band Palmcut . After a request from the fronter, the guitarist, who had previously been a fan on Private Line, decided to join the band. This was followed by a phase of intensive rehearsals with new songs, six of which were released in December 2002 in cooperation with Bad Habits / Krklund Records on the EP Six Songs Of Hellcity Trendkill . The EP contained both older and new material and received very good reviews in both Finnish and international rock media. In addition, after the release of the single, Private Line received a contract offer from the booking agency Sam Agency Oy , which they accepted. The following year the band toured Finland, among other things as a support act for Negative and Hybrid Children , before work on Private Lines debut album began towards the end of the year. They also played the song Junkies' Love , an English cover version of the song Narkkarirakkautta by the band Klamydia, together with Sir Christ and Antti Anatomy , guitarist and bassist of the friendly group Negative .

Debut album and international breakthrough

In February 2004 the band already gave a little preview of their first album 21st Century Pirates with the single Forever And A Day , which was released in April, now on Bad Habits Records / Playground Music . The single also included Cheerleaders & Dopedealers , which was also on the album, and the film soundtrack Sleep Tight for the film Levottomat3 as additional songs . The five Finns released their debut album in April. 21st Century Pirates received positive feedback from the media not only in Finland and immediately entered the Finnish charts at number 18. The second release 1-800-Out-Of-Nowhere followed in June , followed by Already Dead in December. These two singles also made it into the top 5 of the Finnish charts. After the album was released in Japan in August 2004 under JVC Victor Entertainment , the band went on an international tour in late 2004. Private Line played in Japan, Italy , Spain , England , Germany , Sweden and Russia , partly as the opening act for well-known rock musicians and bands such as Mötley Crüe , Alice Cooper , DAD and Brides of Destruction .

Evel Knievel Factor

After the tour ended in 2005, Private Line began work on their second studio album. They gave a foretaste of what was to come with the release of the single Broken Promised Land with the previously unreleased bonus song Uniform , also part of the new album, on May 31, 2006 . The video for the single, in which Finnish porn actress Rakel Liekki also played, was recorded at the Flamingo Hotel Las Vegas and in the Nevada desert . In October, the band announced on their MySpace, simultaneously with the release of the song Alive , that the new album entitled Evel Knievel Factor would be released on November 1, 2006. This time the release took place not only in Finland, but with the help of various labels also in Ukraine , Japan, Russia, Brazil , Chile , Argentina and Sweden . On the Japanese version of the album, the Cheap Tricks cover He's A Whore was a bonus song . The second single from Evel Knievel Factor , the ballad Sound Advice, followed on January 31, 2007 . The single included the previously unreleased song Tokyo as well as Criminal , a cover for Finnish rock band Smack , and the video for Broken Promised Land . A video was also shot for Sound Advice , which was ranked number 1 on the Finnish music channel VoiceTV for ten weeks in a row. In addition, Sound Advice was selected as the soundtrack for the film V2 - Jäätynyt enkelit , which had over 200,000 cinema-goers. In the same year, Private Line also toured Finland, Sweden and Russia.

Current developments

At the end of the year, the band then re-recorded the song More by the Black Eyed Peas in their own version for an advertising campaign for the beverage manufacturer Pepsi . The song was heard in the Finnish advertising campaign for Pepsi Max at the end of 2007, and the bottles were also adorned with a band logo and a photo of Private Line. In 2008 the album Evel Knievel Factor was also released in Italy. In September, the band also played with the support of the Swedish glam rock formation Sister the Prozac Nation Tour with performances in Germany, Austria and Switzerland . On this tour, however, they had to do without guitarist Illu , his position was taken by Jaakko-Ville (JV) Hintikka from the band Machine Men .
