The Skiclub Hochvogel Munich is a ski club founded in Munich in 1921 , which is known for the successful participation of club members in Bavarian and German championships , world championships and Olympic Winter Games . The association's current focus has been on cross-country skiing since 1968 .

history

The founding idea arose on the summit of the Hochvogel , after which the association got its name from the seven founding members. The association founded as the Hochvogel Munich tourist association initially offered mountain and ski tours . The leased “Staucheralmhütte” on the Bodenschneid served as a ski hut .

In 1924 members of the association took part in the Zugspitzplatt race for the first time, in 1925 they joined the Bavarian Ski Association and in 1925 joined the mountain rescue service . In 1929 the club, now known as the Alpenclub Hochvogel , leased a second mountain hut on the Herzogstand , shortly afterwards the Staucheralmhütte was given up and in 1930 a second hut was leased in Neuhaus. In 1932, the club was able to take part in cross-country skiing competitions with a strictly limited number of members with two relay teams. The hut in Neuhaus was given up.

In 1934 the Alpine Club Hochvogel Munich was entered in the register of associations at the Munich District Court and members took part in Bavarian championships for the first time. From 1935 to 1939 the club's own hut was built on the Bodenschneid. The lease for the hut on the Herzogstand was not renewed in 1939. In 1940 the name was changed to Ski-Klub Hochvogel e. V. Munich . Club life gradually came to a standstill during the war years . Ultimately, in 1945, the Allies were briefly disbanded, as a license to continue operating was obtained from the US military government in the fall of that year .

In 1946 the Hochvogler relay won the first Munich club championship after the World War. In 1949 the young Adolf Knott won the Bavarian Youth Championship, in 1950 Rudi Ettenhuber competed in the German Nordic Championship and Hans Wach in the German Alpine Championship . Ettenhuber was among other things at the German Nordic Ski Championships in 1952 in Braunlage a member of the relay "Bayern I", which won the bronze medal in the relay race. Kurt Dotzler started at the German Nordic Ski Championships in 1953 , but could only come in 21st. In 1960 Hildegard Koch won the Bavarian championship in downhill skiing and in 1961 the club won the silver medal at the Bavarian relay championships. Due to the successes, cross-country skiing became more and more the focus of the club. In 1967 Kurt Dotzler became Bavarian champion in 50 km cross-country skiing, in 1968 the club only took part in cross-country skiing competitions.

In the German Nordic Skiing Championships in 1972 is brought Sigi Maier the bronze medal in the 50-km cross-country skiing. 1974 Wolfgang Müller and Susanne Riermeier became members of the German national team. In 1976, SC Hochvogel won the most medals in Germany. Riermeier and Müller emerged successfully from several championship competitions and were the first representatives of the club at the Olympic Games with the qualification for the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid . In 1982 Stefan Dotzler qualified for the first time for the Nordic World Ski Championships and took part in the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo and the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary . In 1986 Angelika Lang set the world record in 12-hour roller skiing with a distance of 320 kilometers. Bernd Raupach , Christian Maiwald , Wolfgang Müller and Stefan Dotzler won the German club relay championship for the first time in 1987 and defended the title twice in a row, in 1989 with Andreas Puff instead of Müller.

In 1991, the club received from the city of Munich what is now the clubhouse in Heinrich-Wieland-Straße, which was then fundamentally rebuilt.

Others

Outside of skiing, Jochen Schwarz , who also belongs to the club, was very successful in white water canoeing in the 1960s . Extreme ski mountaineer and record holder Benedikt Böhm was a member of the club as a teenager.
