Slacker Uprising is a film about a campaign tour directed by Michael Moore . In 2004, it took him through 63 cities in the US states that were decisive for voting within 42 days in order to convince 18 to 29 year olds to vote.

The film is a reworked version by Captain Mike Across America , which was screened at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival . The premiere of Slacker Uprising took place on 18 September 2008 at the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor, Michigan, instead.

It is one of the first movies to be released as a free download. The free download is only available to residents of the United States and Canada as of September 23, 2008. At the same time, the film will also be available as a stream until the end of 2008 . The motivation for this offer was Moore's hope to get millions of new and young voters to vote on November 4, 2008. The film was released on DVD in October 2008.

Slacker Uprising features appearances from Eddie Vedder ( Pearl Jam ), Roseanne Barr , Tom Morello ( Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave ), Viggo Mortensen, and others.

reception

Most critics didn't like the film. Of the 18 reviews collected on Rotten Tomatoes , only 5 were positive. For example, Stephanie Zacharek said that the film is a shameless act of self-expression, even for a shameless self-promoter like Moore.

Scott Tobias called Slacker Uprising Moore's worst film, especially since it was all about "Captain Mike" himself and was a tribute to himself. The tour itself was undoubtedly useful, and Moore could have used it to spur politicians and new voters for months, but it has an expiration date, and that was four years before the film was released.
