action

Ford Cole's ambitious goal as district attorney is to arrest crime boss Danny. The difficulty is that no one knows Danny's real face. He is confronted with a completely different problem when his assistant Nora Timmer is accused of murder. According to her own account, she acted in self-defense after a rape. The murder victim, a hitherto innocent black man named Isaac Duperde, is said to have followed her to her apartment. After Isaac's buddy Luther Pinks describes a different version at the police station, Nora also admits to her superior that she has known Isaac for a long time and that she herself had a love affair with him.

Police investigation reveals that Nora recently attempted to obtain the release of an inmate for lack of evidence. Of course, prosecutor Cole also learns about this and questions the man urgently. Since Cole offers him a lighter sentence, Jeffrey Sykes begins to give details: Nora is deeply involved in criminal activities. After completing her training as a public prosecutor, she went to bars that belonged to the gangster milieu. She got to know a man named Leon who had extensive contacts with the underworld and entered into a love affair with him. For example, she transferred funds for him. That Leon is the wanted serious criminal Danny, reports Sykes on. He also works for Danny himself. In Cole, the suspicion grows that Danny is already in the police building and pretending to be Luther Pinks. A comparison between Sykes and Pinks confirms this.

Isaac spoke on the last phone call before his death of an event that will occur at five in the morning. Shortly after five, the gas pipe explodes in a block of flats in the city that is in Danny's domain. The unpopular social housing has thus been destroyed and demolition will be inevitable. Without the social housing, Danny's neighboring properties will experience a noticeable appreciation, which will increase property and rental prices, according to his goal.

When Cole grinds the suspicious Pinks again, he reveals himself to be an FBI agent. Pinks has been following Nora and Cole for several months. A few minutes later, Danny's arrest by the FBI follows. A journalist who interviewed Cole about his candidacy for mayor and later wanted to portray him was exposed as Danny.

Reviews

The film received mostly negative reviews. Franck Tabouring z. B. describes him as a disappointment. Gesa-Marie Pludra's judgment is somewhat milder:

"[T] he story about a murdered man and the rat tail that this murder brings with it sometimes seems a bit opaque due to the many twists and turns."

- Gesa-Marie Pludra

The lexicon of international films was positive and spoke of an "[un] entertaining conspiracy thriller", filled with "dark, atmospheric glossy pictures". The film succeeds "largely [...]" also due to the "passable [r] actors from the second row".
