Smoleń ( German Karlsburg ) is a village in the Gmina Choszczno of the Polish West Pomeranian Voivodeship . The place is the seat of a Schulzenamt to which the village Baczyn belongs.
The village lies in the Neumark , about 28 kilometers east of the city Choszczno ( Arnswalde ) and 81 kilometers east of the regional capital Szczecin ( Szczecin ).
The village came under Polish administration after the end of World War II .
Smoleń was a stop on the Grzmiąca – Kostrzyn railway line until 1991 .
Personalities
- Ludwig Saxer (1869–1957), the German naval officer, most recently Rear Admiral of the Reichsmarine , was born on November 26th, 1869 in the then German Karlsburg.
