Socrates is a monthly German sports magazine . It was founded in 2016 by Democracia Verlag and is based in Hohenbrunn . The publisher and managing director is Can Öz, the publisher and editor-in-chief is Fatih Demireli .

history

Socrates magazine has its origins in Turkey , where it was first published in Turkish in April 2015. “Socrates Turkey” belongs to Can Yayinları Verlag and has received several awards according to its own information. In 2016 the founders decided to expand to Europe . The magazine is named after football player Sócrates Brasileiro Sampaio de Souza Vieira de Oliveira , who was very politically involved in the democracy movement in Brazil and also established grassroots democratic structures in football.

Socrates is available in Germany , Austria , Switzerland and other European countries. Marketing of the magazine is carried out by Gruner + Jahr . In addition to the print magazine, the magazine also offers an ePaper . The first edition in October 2016 was 51,000 copies.

Socrates magazine is not limited to one sport. In addition to the focus on football , it also reports on topics from other sports such as tennis , basketball , motor sports as well as the NFL and e-sports .
