Sokone is a town in the Foundiougne department of the Fatick region , in the south-west of Senegal .

Geographical location

Sokone is located in the center of the Foundiougne department, halfway between the town of Foundiougne in the north and the border with Gambia in the south. At the same time the city is on the north bank of the Bolon Sokone and on the eastern edge of the amphibious and articulated by many watercourses Saloumdeltas with the touristy significant Saloum Delta National Park .

Sokone is located 148 kilometers southeast of Dakar , 50 kilometers south of the Fatick regional prefecture and 30 kilometers south of Foundiougne.

Sokone lies on the national highway N 5 , the Kaolack through the hinterland of Saloumdeltas with Banjul , the capital of the neighboring country Gambia connects. The N5 is also part of the Dakar-Lagos Highway , one of the Trans-African Highways . To the south of the city, the N5 crosses the Bôlon Sokone with its amphibious bank zone with a combined dam-bridge construction around 500 meters long .

Sokone is connected to Kaolack Airport, 45 km away, and the national air transport network via the N5 .
