Soltaniye or Soltanije ( Persian سلطانیه Soltaniyeh , DMG Solṭānīye ) is a city in the Iranian province of Zanjan , about 45 km southeast of the provincial capital of Zanjan , in the transition area of ​​the flattening, eastern foothills of the Zagros mountain rangeson the one hand and the Elburs ridge on the other.

history

Soltaniye itself gained cultural importance at the beginning of the 14th century with the Mongol rule . From this time of the Ilkhan even the temporary property as the capital of Iran originated. Today the village of Soltaniye has almost 6,000 inhabitants and lives a peaceful existence. Older parts of the village are presented in the clay house construction typical of rural Iran.

Öldscheitü mausoleum

The Öldscheitü mausoleum , which is still largely preserved today, was built between 1302 and 1312 . The building was erected as a separate tomb by the Shiite Mongol sultan Öldscheitü and dedicated to Ali ibn Abi Talib (cousin and son-in-law of Muhammad) and his son Hossein .

The Öldscheitü Mausoleum was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2005 .
