Souls at Zero was an American groove and thrash metal band from Baltimore , Maryland , formed in 1993 after the band Wrathchild America changed its name to Souls at Zero. In 1996 the band finally broke up.

history

The band emerged from the renaming of the band Wratchild America Souls at Zero in 1993. In the same year they played their first appearance in Baltimore at a local club called Hammerjacks . The band reached a contract with Energy Records and released their self-titled debut album that same year. The band then worked on other songs, went on several tours and performed with bands such as Pantera , Crowbar and Sacred Reich , among others .

In 1994, on the advice of the record company, in order not to be forgotten, the EP Six-T-Six followed , on the cover versions of Circle Jerks and Bad Brains were included. In 1995 the second album A Taste for the Perverse was released after drummer Shannon Larkin left the band and was replaced by Jamie Miller. After the release, the band went on tour again, this time one after the other. a. with Life of Agony , Skid Row and Ugly Kid Joe , with the latter now played by Shannon Larkin, who had made the support of Souls at Zero possible for these performances. The separation from Larkin took place amicably, according to Brad Divens.

The guitarists Terry Carter and Jay Abbene left the band a little later, which led to the complete breakup of Souls at Zero. Terry Carter played in various country and blues bands. He also went on tour with Fear of God for a short time . Brad Divens became a producer, promoter and sound engineer, working with bands like Mindset , Linkin Park , Cyndi Lauper and Slayer . Jay Abbene went on tour with Fear of God and Crowbar. Shannon Larkin was active in the band Godsmack .

style

The band plays an aggressive version of metal that is described as a mix of Pantera , Helmet and Quicksand . The guitar riffs were often groovy . According to singer Brad Divens, the lyrics represent "self-therapy" and reflections on "recent events". Divens also processed negative experiences in the music business: "The music business is fucked up and so is the whole world."
