The Space Launch Complex 37 ( SLC-37 , previously Launch Complex 37 , LC-37) is one of Space Florida powered rocket launch site on the grounds of the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on Merritt Iceland , Cape Canaveral in Florida , USA . Originally built for the start of the Saturn I and Saturn IB as part of the Apollo program , the complex is now used by the United Launch Alliance for the start of the Delta IV .

history

Construction of the launch complex began in June 1959. It was built together with Launch Complex 34 as part of the Apollo program for the launch of the Saturn I and Saturn 1B.

Originally two pads were built (37A and 37B), but only pad B was used.

After the end of the Saturn flights, the site was closed and the facilities mothballed in the early 1970s. It wasn't until the beginning of the 21st century that the complex was reactivated, and Pad B is now used by the US Air Force and the United Launch Alliance for Delta IV launches , primarily to launch heavy military satellites into space.
