The Spreeler Bach is a right tributary of the Wupper . In its lower reaches it formed the border between the Rhineland and Westphalia .

Location and topography

The stream rises at 323 meters above sea level. NN south-east of the Ennepetal village of Königsfeld and flows in its Bachtal to the twin village of Spreeler Mühle / Griesensiepen , where the Brebach flows into the city limits of Radevormwald . From there, the Spreeler Bach forms the city boundary between Ennepetal and Radevormwald and thus at the same time the boundary between the Ennepe-Ruhr district and the Oberbergisches Kreis , between the administrative districts of Cologne and Arnsberg and the border between the Rhineland and Westphalia.

This border situation existed as a dividing line between the Duchy of Berg and the County of Mark since the late Middle Ages . To secure the border, the Elberfeld line of the Bergisch-Märkische Landwehr was laid out on the southeast side of the stream from 1300 , which continued from the Spreeler Mühle along the Brebach.

At the old industrial site of Mühlenfeld , the Spreeler Bach flows into 201 meters above sea level. NN in the root of the Beyenburger reservoir , an impoundment of the Wupper . The city boundary to Wuppertal runs in the middle of the Wupper , so that the stream also touches the administrative district of Düsseldorf here .
