Trail of destruction (original title: Path of Destruction ) is an American science fiction - action film from the year 2005 . Directed by Stephen Furst and written by Chase Parker .

The StarkCorp company is conducting experiments with nanorobots on behalf of the government until the funds for them are cut. StarkCorp is storing the remaining nanobots on an oil rig near Alaska . Reporter Katherine Stern visits the oil rig when an accident frees the nanorobots. The company tries to destroy them with other nanorobots, which fails. The machines devastate some areas.
The company accuses Stern of sabotage. It hires the scientist Nathan McCain to work out a plan to destroy the nanorobots. Meanwhile, the US military intends to destroy the nanobots with a nuclear explosion to prevent it from spreading to the west coast of the US.
The machines are destroyed with a strong electromagnetic pulse . The bombing of the area is canceled. StarkCorp owner Roy Stark is killed by a bomb explosion. Stern and McCain get closer in private.
