Stéphanie von Nassau, Hereditary Grand Duchess of Luxembourg, Hereditary Princess of Nassau and Princess of Bourbon-Parma (born February 18, 1984 as Countess Stéphanie Marie Claudine Christine de Lannoy in Ronse in Belgium ) is the wife of the Luxembourg Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and thus likely the future Grand Duchess of Luxembourg with the salutation Royal Highness .

Stéphanie von Luxemburg comes from the Flemish noble family Lannoy (French: Maison de Lannoy ), whose most famous representative was the general Charles de Lannoy . She is the youngest of eight children of the Belgian Count Philippe de Lannoy (1922-2019) and his wife Alix, née della Faille de Leverghem (1941-2012). Her paternal grandparents were Count Paul de Lannoy (1898–1980) and Princess Béatrice de Ligne (1898–1982); the maternal grandparents were Baron Harold della Faille de Leverghem (1908-1994) and Madeleine de Brouchoven de Bergeyck (1912-1996). Her family on her father's side comes from the Flemish knighthood . She grew up on the family home in Anvaing in the Belgian province of Hainaut .

Shortly before her marriage to Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume, she was granted Luxembourg citizenship by means of an emergency act by the Luxembourg Parliament , because marriage in Luxembourg does not automatically lead to the acquisition of Luxembourg nationality. The controversial Lex de Lannoy consists of a single sentence: “The nationality is granted to Countess Stéphanie de Lannoy.” In an interview, she emphasized that, as the future Grand Duchess, she will not make use of the option of dual citizenship, which means that Belgian will lose her.

The engagement to the Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume of Luxembourg was announced on April 26, 2012 in Luxembourg, the ceremony took place on April 27, 2012 in Berg Castle. The civil wedding took place on October 19 in Luxembourg, the church wedding followed on October 20, 2012 in the Cathedral of Our Lady by Archbishop Jean-Claude Hollerich . She first attended the Dutch-speaking Sancta Maria primary school in Ronse. At 18, she spent a year in Moscow , the Russian language and literature study.

She then studied German at the Université catholique de Louvain in Louvain-la-Neuve . She completed a master’s degree in German philology in Berlin with a thesis on the influence of German romanticism on Russian romanticism.

She extended her stay in Berlin with an internship at the Agence Wallonne à l'Exportation at the Belgian embassy . After returning to Belgium from Germany, she worked for an investment company.

In addition to her mother tongue, French and Dutch , she speaks fluent German , English and Russian . In addition, she learned Luxembourgish .
