Stéphen Pichon

Stéphen Jean Marie Pichon (born August 10, 1857 in Arnay-le-Duc , Côte-d'Or , † September 18, 1933 in Vers-en-Montagne , Jura ) was a French politician .

As a journalist, he worked for the daily La Justice of the future Prime Minister Georges Clemenceau before he was elected as a member of the Chamber of Deputies in 1885. He later served as a diplomat in Port-au-Prince , Santo Domingo , Rio de Janeiro , Beijing and Tunis . In 1900 he participated in negotiations in Beijing to end the Boxer Rebellion .

In 1906 Clemenceau appointed him to his cabinet as foreign minister . He kept this office after the fall of Clemenceau in 1909 to 1911. When Clemenceau, whom he always supported, was again prime minister from 1917 to 1920, this Pichon reappointed foreign minister. He was instrumental in the Paris Peace Conference to end the First World War , from which the Paris Suburb Treaties emerged.

After retiring from active politics, he became editor of the Petit Journal .
