The chapel consists of a single nave with two bays , which is extended to the east by a semicircular apse . This has a low, openwork window in the south wall, which allowed a direct view of the sanctuary and the consecration stone from the cemetery .
history
In 988 a church with the name St-Andéol is mentioned for the first time, which was donated by Coseigneurs to the Benedictine Abbey of Montmajour . St-Andéol then became a Benedictine priory .
The chapel was built in the 11th century and replaced the older church . In the 12th century, monks modified the building by covering the nave with a barrel vault , adding blind arcades in the main nave and wall pillars supported by outer buttresses .
In the 13th century a gallery was built on the western yoke and at the beginning of the 14th century a side chapel was added to the north. These two late changes are gone today.
The priory church included several outbuildings (monastery house, cloister, cemetery, hayloft), a hospital outside the city walls and a poor house .
During the French Revolution , the chapel was sold to a farmer who turned it into a barn with a hayloft. In the mid-1970s it developed into an antique store and in 2013 it was bought by the city. Extensive excavations have been taking place on the site since 2014 .
