The Catholic parish church of Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul in Saint-Pierre-lès-Nemours , a neighboring parish of Nemours in the Seine-et-Marne department in the French region of Île-de-France , was built in several phases from the 11th century . In 1926 the church consecrated to the apostles Peter and Paul was added to the list of architectural monuments in France as Monument historique .

architecture

The two-storey, square bell tower rises on the west facade. It is reinforced at the corners by two buttresses and crowned by a slate-covered pointed helmet. The upper floor is broken up by arched sound arcades . After a storm, the tower was renewed in the 18th century. The slightly pointed portal dates from the 13th century. It is framed by round bars that rest on pillars that are decorated with leaf capitals .

The nave consists of a main aisle and a south aisle. The interior was redesigned in the Romanesque-Byzantine style at the end of the 19th century . The choir was built in the 14th century.

Leaded glass window

The church has stained glass windows from the 19th century. One window shows the pilgrimage church of Lourdes, another window shows Jesus as the Good Shepherd .

Furnishing

  • The pulpit , whose body is made of stucco and whose staircase and sound cover are made of wood, was created around 1850 and installed before the church was redesigned. The four evangelists are depicted with their symbols on the pulpit .
  • The stone and stucco altar in Romanesque-Byzantine style dates from 1890. It is decorated with reliefs depicting scenes from the life of the Apostle Peter.
  • The church has a painting by Daniel Hallé that is dated around 1660. It represents Mary surrounded by angels and carrying the baby Jesus in her body.
