The St. Catherine's Church in Leplow is a 13th century church building in the Leplow district of the Western Pomeranian community of Eixen .

history

The church was built in the second half of the 13th century as a daughter church of Tribsees ; since 1293 it belonged to the Neuenkamp monastery .

After the parish was closed in the second half of the 16th century, the church was devastated in 1687, with all the furnishings being lost. In the second third of the 20th century the church was given up by the regional church, the sacristy and the half-timbered tower were demolished, as was the organ . In the 1990s the church was rehabilitated through the initiative of the Leplower population through job creation measures .

Exterior

The tile-roofed hall church without a steeple was built from field stone and has a rectangular floor plan. Bricks were only used sparingly .

A belfry in the churchyard houses the ringing of two bells .

Furnishing

The church has a wooden beam ceiling on the back of which remains of ornamental painting have been preserved. The sparse furnishings date from the 19th century. There is a pulpit , an altar and a baptismal font as well as stalls. Above the altar there is a representation of the crucified.

organ

The Leplower organ was built in 1835 by Carl August Buchholz from Berlin and was rebuilt in 1971 on the advice of church music director Dietrich Prost in Groß Bünzow . In 2011 the organ was extensively restored and is playable again.

For the Reformation anniversary in 2017 , the Leplower Church was the central event location for artists in Parish

The parish of Eixen has been part of the Stralsund Propstei in the Pomeranian Evangelical Church District of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany since 2012 . Before that she belonged to the Stralsund parish of the Pomeranian Evangelical Church .

Cultural church

As part of the Reformation anniversary , the church is part of a community art project of the North Church in summer 2016 . As artist in residence , the artist Ursula Dietze built a studio for several weeks in the church and designed an art installation made of clay and scrap metal for Luther's interpretation of the Magnificat .
