Up until the 1980s there were still the following departments in the St. Antonius Hospital in Cologne:

history

The hospital opened on June 23, 1909, initially with 150 beds as a specialized accident hospital . Today's old building was built in two years by the then Cologne architect and building contractor Peter Gärtner in the popular architectural style of historicism that was widespread at the time . The function as an accident hospital paid off in World War I , as parts of the hospital were used as a war hospital . At that time, the hospital was primarily regarded as a specialist in more complicated bone fractures , which is why many seriously injured soldiers in particular were brought straight to the Cologne hospital from the fighting .

During the Second World War , the hospital building was only relatively slightly damaged.

Since the end of the Second World War, the highly specialized accident hospital has been transformed into a general hospital of today. The new bed block, built in a functional style in 1972, contributed to this.

In 1982 the hospital was expanded to include an intensive care unit , a new operating theater and an outpatient department. The bed capacity grew to 315 beds in the 1980s. Today there are 214 beds in the St. Antonius Hospital in Cologne. At that time, in addition to current departments of surgery , internal medicine and physicians' departments Ophthalmology also the former document departments for gynecology and Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) available.

In the 1990s, the hospital was expanded to include a new operating area and a new ward . A department for physiotherapy services was built. A special feature is the hospital's parking area .

Another expansion took place in 2001 with the establishment of an interdisciplinary intensive care unit . From 2004 to 2006 a major modernization of the ward block was carried out to adapt it to the new needs. In 2007, another new building was built for medical practices and hospital administration . This is where the facility's kidney center is located . The next major structural change took place as part of the expansion of the endoscopic department in 2008. For the first time, quiet zones were created for outpatient treatment .

Operator of the hospital

The sponsor and former sole founder of the facility was the former religious order of the Cellite Society . Due to major restructuring around the year 2000, the current operator of the hospital is now the St. Antonius Krankenhaus Köln GmbH , whose 100% owner, however, is still the successor organization of the previous religious order of the Cellitinnen Cooperative , namely the Cellitinnen Foundation .

The following sister institutions are also located under the umbrella of this foundation :

Hospital building as a film set

In the media metropolis of Cologne, the northern wing of the old building, built in the historicist style, is occasionally popular as a backdrop for filming a film. In the past few years, several individual scenes for larger film and series productions were shot here.
