St. Bartholomew Church

The St. Bartholomäus Church is a Roman Catholic church in Dilsberg , a district of Neckargemünd in the Rhein-Neckar district in northwest Baden-Württemberg . It was built in the 18th century in the Baroque style.

history

Ruprecht I , Elector of the Palatinate , founded an eternal mass in Dilsberg in 1378. The Worms Synod of 1494 mentioned a chapel in Dilsberg, which was consecrated to St. Oswald. In 1556, Elector Ottheinrich introduced the Reformation in the Electoral Palatinate , but when the Palatinate church was divided, the church fell back to the Catholics in 1707. Due to the garrison, Dilsberg was one of the few places in the Electoral Palatinate where the Catholics made up the majority of the population in the early 18th century.

According to the plans of Kaspar Valerius , a new church was built between 1733 and 1735, whereby part of the masonry of the old chapel was included in the construction. At the same time, an independent parish was set up in Dilsberg. Two years later the church was dedicated to the Apostle Bartholomew . In 1864 the church was enlarged and the old roof turret was replaced by a neo-baroque church tower. An extensive restoration took place between 1962 and 1965. The parish is now part of the Neckargemünd pastoral care unit in the Kraichgau dean's office in the Archdiocese of Freiburg .
