St. Christopher in Vörden , community Neuenkirchen-Vörden , is the parish church of the Evangelical Lutheran parish Vörden that the church district Bramsche the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover belongs.

Building history and description

In Vörden there was a chapel as early as the 14th century , which initially belonged to the parish of Neuenkirchen until it was elevated to a parish church in 1391. In 1661 a new church was built, which burned down to the walls in 1842.

Using the outer walls and the west tower of the church from 1661, a new building was erected, which was consecrated in 1851 . It is a hall church with rectangular windows with jambs of sandstone . The walls were raised and the tower received a new helmet .

Until the construction of the local Catholic church St. Paulus Apostel in 1858, the church served as a simultaneous church .

Furnishing

Most of the furnishings date from the middle of the 19th century, as do the three bells . A grave slab from 1559 has been preserved from earlier times . The church is equipped with side galleries and an organ gallery.

The organ goes back to an instrument that was built in 1852 by the organ builders Gebr. Haupt (Ostercappeln). The slider chest instrument had 14 stops on two manuals and a pedal. In 1917 the prospect pipes had to be handed in for war purposes. They were replaced by zinc pipes in 1923. In 1958 the instrument was extensively rebuilt by the organ builder Hans Wolf (Verden); the bellows were removed, the complete game mechanics renewed, and the disposition changed. 1986–1987 the instrument was restored by the organ builder Kreienbrink (Osnabrück). The instrument was largely returned to its original technical and sonic condition. It has a neo-Gothic prospect with five sounding pipe fields. The second manual is located behind the middle prospectus fields . The main work is divided into C and C sharp drawers on the two outer sides, the pedal is located on the rear wall. The play cupboard is built in frontally; the stops are on both sides next to the music stand. Today the slider chest instrument has 14 stops on two manual works and a pedal . The playing and register actions are mechanical.
