St. Eligius Church in Bath

The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Eligius in Bade , a local community in the Eifel district of Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate , was built in 1907/08 by master bricklayer Josef Herges from Kröv according to plans by Trier cathedral builders Julius Wirtz and Wilhelm Schmitz . The neo-Romanesque church at Kirchstrasse 19a, which replaced a previous building that was demolished in 1921, is a protected cultural monument .

The cross-shaped church building consists of a short, single-nave nave, a transverse building, a choir and a semicircular apse as well as two small side apses on the cross arms. A chapel is built on the south west side, the four-story tower in the north and the sacristy south of the choir. The outer masonry consists of roughly hewn small limestone blocks , the structure is made of red sandstone .

The wide interior is spanned by ribbed vaults between smooth belt arches over flat rectangular templates. The cornerstone inscription from 1907 can be seen in the southeastern crossing pillar .

The high altar and the two side altars were designed in the style of Beuron art by the diocesan architect Heinrich Renard in Cologne and executed by the sculptor Barutzki. The high altar was painted in color in 1920 by the church painter Josef Renard from Kevelaer .

After all lead glass windows were destroyed by the war in 1945, they were renewed in 1955.
