The St. Germanus Church is the Protestant church in Weißandt-Gölzau . It is located in the city of Southern Anhalt in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district in Saxony-Anhalt . The church is under monument protection and is registered in the monument register with registration number 094 70794 as a monument .

location

The church was built in the village of Groß-Weißandt, which later merged with other villages to form Weißandt-Gölzau. In the village, the church is located in the immediate vicinity of the former castle and right next to the manor house built later, south of the village center.

History and architecture

Stylistically, the oldest parts of the church, especially the lower part of the tower with its twin arcades, belong to the time of the first mention in 1202. The patronage of St. Germanus also indicates that it was built before 1200. The field stone tower was raised in 1902 by Friedrich Gothe by a bell storey made of brick in the neo-renaissance style, based on the previous upper part from 1590. The ship's inscription dates from 1496 and is accordingly late Gothic. Presumably at the same time, the choir and northern sacristy were created .

Interior and outfit

The interior was heavily changed during a renovation in 1872. The altar , pulpit and baptismal font , as well as the wooden barrel in the nave and the horseshoe gallery , date from this period . A semicircular triumphal arch separates the nave and choir . In the chancel there is a simple net vault on the ceiling, while in the sacristy there is a ribbed vault . Older testimonies have also been preserved in the church, such as a knight's grave from the 16th century or an epitaph by Gebhard Siegfried von Plotho († 1689). In the church there is also an organ from 1695, which was re-framed in 1872 and restored in 2008.
