St. Isidor is a Roman Catholic church in Ammeldingen near Neuerburg in the Verbandsgemeinde Südeifel ( Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm ) in Rhineland-Palatinate . It is kept in the register of cultural monuments by the General Directorate for Cultural Heritage Rhineland-Palatinate (GDKE).

history

The Church of St. Isidor was built in 1896 as a historicizing four-axis hall building with a drawn-in three-sided closed choir and a west tower with an eight-sided pointed helmet. It is consecrated to Isidore of Madrid , of whom the Ammeldingen community writes that he is "not one of the most famous saints". The plans for the construction come from the Luxembourg architects Knepper and Glosener from Diekirch . Construction began at the end of March 1896, the foundation stone was laid on June 1st and the walls were erected in August. A year later, on August 10th, he moved into the church and was blessed by Dean Zimmer.

Inside, buttresses connected by pointed arches form deep wall niches in the nave and choir. In contrast to the comparatively simple exterior, the interior is lavishly designed: a ribbed vault covers the nave and a groin vault covers the choir, while the walls are decorated with ornamental and floral paintings that were discovered and restored in 1987.

The furnishings from the construction period - mainly three altars , the stations of the cross and the stalls - have been almost completely preserved. The current organ dates from 1988 and was built by Orgelbau Mühleisen from Leonberg . It has nineteen registers .

The parish of Ammeldingen with around 550 members today includes the local parishes of Ammeldingen, Emmelbaum, Heilbach and Plascheid with several outlying farms. It is part of the parish community St. Nikolaus Neuerburg in the deanery of St. Willibrord Westeifel ( Diocese of Trier ).
