St. Jakob am Thurn is a part of the municipality of Puch near Hallein in Tennengau .

In the district stands next to the castle tower, which is owned by the Flatz family, the Jakobuskirchlein, a pilgrimage church. This Romanesque building with baroque furnishings that is well worth seeing was built in 1238. On behalf of Count Josef Anton von Platz, the builder Kassian Singer (1712–1759) built the Loretto Chapel as an extension to the parish church. Von Platz had it built in gratitude for his return from the Turkish Wars in 1772.

To commemorate the Jacob's brotherhoods, the Jakobischützen have existed in Sankt Jakob am Thurn since 1476 (Turkish siege), which were originally deployed as an armed association against the Turkish siege. The tower castle, which is now used for residential purposes, is a landmark of the village of St. Jakob am Thurn.

In addition to the pilgrimage church, there is also a primary school and an inn in the small town. Also in the village, which is 520 m above sea level, is a lake that was created at the beginning of the 20th century by the swamp of that time (was dredged and dammed). At that time there was also a bathing establishment on the lake. It was used by the population for thermal purposes in the post-war years of World War II .

In St. Jakob, the Paracelsus School, a school for children in need of soul care, was built in an old farm by Peter Daniell Porsche , a member of the Porsche family . He will continue to sponsor this school, half of which will be received by the State of Salzburg.
