The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Jakobus and Margaretha is a church building in Gielsdorf , a district of Alfter , a municipality in the Rhein-Sieg district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). It stands as a monument under monument protection .
History and architecture
The arched, Romanesque hall building with a tower in front was originally the chapel of a Palatine castle in the 12th century . The wall painting cycle from 1492 in the three-sided closed choir is badly damaged. Scenes from the life of Jesus and representations from the legends of St. Margareta and St. James shown. The paintings were restored in 1983/84. The former nave is now the vestibule of a neo-Gothic , two-aisled brick hall , which was built by Vincenz Statz in 1879/80 . The block altar from the 12th century was moved later.
organ
The company Orgelbau Klais from Bonn was commissioned to build an organ in St. Jakobus in 1899. It was completed in 1900. Today it is one of the few fully pneumatic organs in the area.
