history

The core of the church building probably dates from the second half of the 15th century. In 1549 the church was consecrated again after a renovation. A neo-Gothic renovation was carried out in 1881. In 1952/1953 the nave was extended by two axes to the west.

Building description

The nave of the church is a hall with a flat ceiling and consists of six window axes. A retracted choir with a 3/8 end adjoins the nave . The choir consists of three bays and a ribbed vault from 1881. Buttresses with water hammer are attached to the outside of the choir . The church tower is located in the northern choir angle and with a gable roof covered. The facade of the church tower is divided into storeys by clover-leaf arch friezes. On the upper floor there are pointed arched coupled sound arcades . The basement of the tower has a ribbed vault . The sacristy with a pent roof is located on the north side of the church . There are two vestibules on the south and north sides. These are covered on the south side with a hipped roof , on the north side with a gable roof. The pulpit stairs are located on the north side and are designed as a simple extension.

Furnishing

Assumption Madonna from the early 17th century

The pulpit , dating from the second half of the 18th century, was originally placed in a different church. It is made of marbled wood and gold-plated decor. The curved base is followed by the polygonal basket divided by pilasters . The fields of the pulpit show figures set in gold with depictions of the Good Shepherd and the four evangelists . The sound cover of the pulpit is crowned with a figure of the Archangel Michael .

The baptismal font from the late 18th century as the pulpit made of marbled wood. The ceiling painting of the nave shows the beheading of St. Jacobus Maior. The church fathers are depicted in stone-colored medallions in the corners . The ceiling painting is marked with J. Baader 1784 . It was painted over in 1881 and exposed again in 1922. The ceiling painting in the choir is whitewashed and showed a representation of the crucifixion. The painting was created by Joseph Baader in 1784.

The wall paintings are probably also by J. Baader from 1784. The evangelists are depicted in four oval medallions on the choir walls. In the north-west corner of the choir is the stone-colored depiction of the baptism of Christ. Other paintings in the church include that of the Martyrdom of St. Sebastian (1670) and an Immaculate (1676) in memory of the late pastor Lucas Mair. The Way of the Cross with 15 stations dates from around 1800.

In the choir there is a Vespers picture from the first half of the 18th century. The Assumption Madonna, a work from the early 17th century, was removed from an originally larger context. The Vespers in the vestibule dates from the middle of the 18th century. Both crucifixes date from the 16th century.

In the choir is the grave monument made of sandstone by Anna Johanna Fugger-Kirchberg-Weißenhorn († 1658). There are also the grave monuments of Pastor Georg Salomon Wirt († 1848) and Sophia Durocher († 1842) in the church. On the southern outer facade there are five more grave monuments made of Solnhofen limestone from the 18th and early 19th centuries. The memorial plaque for the fallen from 1805–1815 is also made of Solnhofen limestone. This is with Reich Sth. designated.
