St. Johannes Baptist (Steinfeld)
St. Johannes Baptist in Steinfeld (Oldenburg) is the parish church of the Catholic parish of St. Johannes Baptist, which belongs to the Damme deanery of the Münster diocese .
Building history and description
In the parish founded in 1187 there was a church building with a four-bay nave and transept , which was restored several times due to fire damage and construction defects. The church tower was demolished before the new construction began .
From 1897 to 1899 a new church was built elsewhere according to plans by Wilhelm Rincklake . It is a three-aisled step hall made of brick in the neo-Gothic style , adjoining a transept, a polygonal choir and a west tower.
The consecration was celebrated on November 16, 1899 by Bishop Hermann Jakob Dingelstad . First a school was built on the foundations of the old church, later the town hall square.
Furnishing
The window cycle was designed by Oidtmann glass painting when the new church was being built . Altars , pulpit , choir screen and baptismal font are neo-Gothic made of sandstone and were already in the old church.
