St. Johannes Evangelist (Hohenkammer)
The Catholic parish church of St. Johannes Evangelist in Hohenkammer , a parish in the Upper Bavarian district of Freising , dates back to a late Gothic church building from the 15th century. A new nave was built in the 19th century . The church has rich furnishings, some of which come from other secularized churches in the area. The church is one of the protected architectural monuments in Bavaria.
history
A church in the village of Chamer is mentioned in the Freising traditions as early as the early 11th century . This building was probably a modest wooden church that was replaced by a stone building in the 14th century. In the late 15th century a new church was built, of which the Gothic choir has been preserved. In the 17th century the church received a new interior. In 1813 the old nave was demolished and a much larger one was built in its place. The new church was consecrated in 1861 by the Archbishop of Munich and Freising , Gregor von Scherr .
architecture
In the southern corner of the choir, the octagonal bell tower rises on a square basement from the 14th century, which was crowned with a neo-Gothic pointed helmet in 1874. The upper floors, which were partially renewed around 1620, are decorated with gothic glare fields. The substructure has a sundial from 1668.
The choir with a five-eighth ending is slightly drawn in. In the lower part it is surrounded by an extension from the 19th century, in the upper part the buttresses of the original building can be seen. High, narrow arched windows structure the nave, which is designed as a flat-roofed hall building . The two entrances with a sign are located on the north and south sides .
Ceiling painting
The ceiling paintings in the choir date from the middle of the 18th century. They represent the Coronation of Mary and the four Latin Fathers of the Church . The ceiling painting in the nave with the representation of Jesus surrounded by angels and saints was executed in 1879 by Sebastian Wirsching.
Furnishing
- The high altar with its mighty vine leaf columns was created in 1664. The side figures from around 1740 represent Saints Joseph (left) and Johannes Nepomuk (right). The altar panel is changed six times a year. Scenes corresponding to the church year are presented, such as the Adoration of the Magi , a painting that is dated around 1630. Another altarpiece is labeled Ignaz Fray 1808 and depicts The Apocalyptic Woman , based on the original main altarpiece painted by Peter Paul Rubens in Freising Cathedral .
- The pulpit in the Louis XVI style dates back to 1814. At the pulpit basket you can see the sculptures of the four Fathers of the Church and in the middle of a Woman of the Apocalypse .
- The baptismal font under the pulpit is marked with the year 1629. The group of sculptures depicting the baptism of Jesus is dated around 1760.
- The two early baroque sculptures on the choir arch represent the plague saints Sebastian and Rochus of Montpellier .
- The figures of St. Joseph and Anna himself were formerly on the high altar. They were created in 1664 by the sculptor Paul Hiernle (Hörnle).
- Various tombs on the inner and outer walls of the church are reminiscent of the former lords of the court .
