The Roman Catholic parish church of St. John the Baptist is the village church of Nordheim vor der Rhön , a municipality in the Lower Franconian district of Rhön-Grabfeld . Nordheim vor der Rhön is united with Fladungen to form a parish community. The church is one of the architectural monuments of Nordheim vor der Rhön and is registered together with the cemetery cross, the churchyard fortifications and the Kirchgaden under the number D-6-73-147-4 in the Bavarian list of monuments .

history

The steeple as the oldest part of the church was built in the 14th century and was raised in 1565. It is the former choir tower . The choir was built in 1609 and the nave between 1696 and 1698. The transept , which was added between 1972 and 1974, was demolished again in 2008.

description

The church tower with a pointed helmet and arched double sound windows stands on the south side of the choir. The east-facing choir with three-eighth closure has two, the nave with a gable roof four window axes . The windows are arched. In contrast to the trough-shaped ceiling of the nave, there is a cap vault in the choir .

Furnishing

The altars were made by Benedikt Lux from Bad Neustadt an der Saale around 1700. Like the pulpit , they have turned columns. The altarpiece of the high altar shows the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan . On the left side altar Jesus Christ is probably depicted, on the right the fourteen helpers in need . The figures of the four doctors of the church are attached to the pulpit . The central ceiling painting in the nave was created around 1700 by the hand of Oswald Ongher . It shows the Franconian apostles. The organ hangs in front of the western double loft . The church has four bells that were cast by Benjamin Grüninger in Neu-Ulm in 1949 . They sound with es', g ', b' and c '' in the Salve Regina motif.
