history

A church in Weng probably existed from the early 14th century as a branch church of the parish of the Assumption of Mary in Karpfham, which was incorporated into the Passau cathedral chapter . To support the pilgrimage to St. Wolfgang von Regensburg in the nearby pilgrimage church , which was built in 1411 , a pilgrimage chaplaincy was set up on August 3, 1454, which was combined with the cooperative at Wenger Church in 1500 and became a parish vicariate around 1600 . After secularization , St. John the Baptist was spun off from the mother parish of Karpfham in 1816 and made an independent parish.

Today the parish has about 900 Catholics. In addition to the pilgrimage church of St. Wolfgang, the parish also includes the birthplace of the Holy Capuchin brother Konrad von Parzham , which has a church service room on the top floor.
