history

The time when the first church in Wirmsthal was built is unknown, but its first known mention comes from the "Register of Slopes and Income" on April 5, 1614.

Today's St. John the Baptist Church in Wirmsthal was built in 1823. During the 19th century the figures of the English saints Thomas More and John Fischer were erected. The altar, with the coat of arms of Würzburg bishop Johann Philipp von Greiffenclau zu Vollraths , came from the Unterzell monastery in Würzburg to Wirmsthal at the beginning of the 19th century and has been the only altar in the church since a church renovation (1971–1973).

The three steel bells were made in 1918 by the JF Weule bell foundry in Bockenem. The strikes are estimates based on tables.

The altar contains the relics of the martyrs Faustina and Edith Stein . The consecration of the altar and ambo took place on September 15, 2002 by Bishop Paul-Werner Scheele .
