The St. Josef Church is a Roman Catholic parish church in the Saarland wayside shrine , a district of Friedrichsthal , Saarbrücken regional association . Saint Joseph is the church patron . In the list of monuments of the Saarland, the church is a single monument listed.

history

St. Joseph's Church was built in the neo-Gothic style between 1905 and 1907 according to plans by the architect, church builder Johann Adam Rüppel ( Bonn ) . Contractor Christian Karst (Bildstock) was responsible for the execution. The consecration of the completed church took place on November 24, 1907.

From 1953 to 1954 the church was restored . In the years 1971 to 1972 and in 2002 the tower was restored . The latter measure was headed by architect Andreas Röder, Zimmer (Friedrichsthal).

After parts of old wall paintings were uncovered in 2007 , the extensive restoration and renovation of the interior took place from February 2008 to April 2009. As part of the restoration work, modifications were also carried out. So was u. a. the organ , which was located in the north transept for many years , has been placed back in its original place on the gallery . After the work was completed, the church was reopened in a solemn service on Easter Monday, April 13, 2009.

Furnishing

The furnishings of the church include restored wall and ceiling paintings from 1920 to 2009 , the high altar with tabernacle stele , in which the still existing parts of the old high altar, such as the large Sacred Heart Cross , the picture panels with the Emmaus - and the crucifixion scene and the earlier altar panels were integrated, as well as an altar of Mary , a Joseph altar with triptych painting, a Theresien altar and a Barbara altar as a miner's and warrior's memorial altar from 1922. Furthermore there are statues of Saints Hedwig , Hildegard von Bingen and Werner in the church von Bacharach and a resurrection cross that was previously attached to the back wall of the sanctuary and is now in the north transept.

The organ of the church was built in 1930 by the company Klais Orgelbau ( Bonn ). The instrument has 35 registers , divided into two manuals and pedal . The playing and stop action is electric. The disposition is as follows:
