The Roman Catholic Church of St. Katharina is the parish church of Niederlauer in the Lower Franconian district of Rhön-Grabfeld . It belongs to the architectural monuments of Niederlauer and is registered together with the remains of the churchyard wall, the Pietà and the stone cross in the Kirchgasse under the number D-6-73-146-19 in the Bavarian list of monuments .

history

Even before the Reformation, Niederlauer had a small church where it is today. She was taken care of by the Maria Bildhausen Monastery . Becoming Evangelical Lutheran in 1559 , the village was catholicized again in 1583 after the Würzburg monastery took ownership . In 1601, Prince-Bishop Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn elevated Niederlauer to a parish . In 1612 the same prince-bishop had the steeple built on the old church . The current church was built in 1888 in neo-Gothic style. In 1975 the church was renovated. The organ building company Hey installed the organ .

description

The vaulted choir with a five-eighth closure is flanked to the south by the church tower with a pointed helmet and four corner turrets. The sound windows of the church tower are ogival . An octagonal stair tower stands at the side of the church tower . The flat-roofed nave has four window axes . The windows of the choir and nave are pointed arched with tracery . The back wall of the nave is broken through by a rose window above the gallery .

Furnishing

The interior of the church is also neo-Gothic. To the left of the high altar is a female figure, perhaps the Immaculata or - in connection with the church patroness Katharina - St. Margaret . A large crucifix hangs in the pointed choir arch . On the side altars there are figures of Our Lady (left) and Jesus Christ (right), both with side figures. Figures of the four evangelists are attached to the pulpit . On the same (southern) wall as the pulpit you can see a crucifixion group in a niche and a representation of the Holy Family further back . On the northern wall, in another niche, there is the figure of the church patroness Katharina with the broken wheel.
