The St. Laurentius Church is a Roman Catholic parish church in Welschbach , a district of the Saarland community of Illingen , Neunkirchen district . The patron saint of the church is St. Lawrence . In the list of monuments of the Saarland the church building is a single monument listed.

history

The church was built between 1927 and 1928 according to plans by the architect Wilhelm Josef Ertz ( Ottweiler ) and master builder Julius Wirtz ( Trier ).
In 1984 the church underwent a restoration , which also included the ceiling painting in the apse .

Furnishing

The church is equipped with a small altar made of Eifel basalt , a tabernacle that stands on the site of the former high altar , as well as a figure of Our Lady to the left of the altar and a figure of St. Joseph to the right of the altar.

In the apse and above behind the gallery in the tower there are stained glass windows that date from the time the church was built and show Christ and Mary in the regalia of the king and queen. This depiction of Mary as “regina coelorum” at eye level with Christ is rare. Other church windows, more recent, show episodes from the life of Jesus from his birth to the celebration of Pentecost . These are foundations of private individuals and church organizations.

The ceiling painting in the apse, restored in 1984, was created in the 1950s by the painter Walter Bernstein ( Schiffweiler ) and shows Christ with the words light and life and the Greek letters Alpha and Omega . Christ kneeling to the side, St. Laurentius with the grate and St. Francis .

The sediles are the work of stonemasons from Maria Laach Abbey .
