The Church of St. Laurentius is a Roman Catholic parish church in Schifferstadt in Rhineland-Palatinate . The church building dedicated to St. Lawrence of Rome is listed in the register of cultural monuments of the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis .

Architecture and equipment

The church building on Schifferstädter Jägerstraße was built in the Expressionist style between 1928 and 1929 according to plans by the architect Albert Boßlet ( Würzburg ) . It is a three-aisled building with a tower attached to the side . Side altars and stations of the cross are works by the sculptor August Weckbecker . In the XIV. Stations of the Cross, the church architect Albert Boßlet is shown as a “witness” of the burial of Christ.

The interior of the church is dominated by an ogival wooden barrel vault . A pointed arch like the one that separates the chancel from the nave can also be found in the St. Hildegard Church in St. Ingbert, Saarland, also designed by Boßlet . The shape of the high altar and the window behind it also shows parallels to the corresponding objects in St. Ingbert's Church.

The church's furnishings include an altar , a baptismal font and a lectern , which were created in 2003 by the sculptor Helmut Bartholomä. A bronze relief by the sculptor and medalist Gernot Rumpf is attached to each of these furnishings .
